  6.      To Install SIO, change to the disk and directory containing the
  7.      (unziped) SIO distribution files and type INSTALL, followed by
  8.      return.

  10.      This release of SIO (V1.40) contains corrections and additions to
  11.      the basic code.  See HISTORY.TXT in the distribution zip for
  12.      details.  The on line SIO documentation files (.INF) are not
  13.      included in this release of SIO.  Insufficient time was available
  14.      to update the on line documentation.

  16.      PCMCIA modem users that added RESERVE.SYS to their CONFIG.SYS for
  17.      SIO 1.35 should now remove the statement.  The SIO install
  18.      program will REM out that statement automatically.

  20.      SIO has been tested on OS/2 V3.0 and seems to work without
  21.      changes or additions.  This version of SIO contains additions
  22.      that make SIO Resource Manager compliant.

  24.      Windows better than Windows!  If you are using COMM.DRV from
  25.      Windows for Workgroups 3.11, SIO will now support the
  26.      communications directly.  That is, Windows programs will be
  27.      directly supported by SIO proper, and the virtualization that
  28.      existed in earlier versions of SIO is bypassed.  In this
  29.      environment, Windows communications programs should work as well
  30.      as native OS/2 communications programs.  Thanks to Rob Rose of
  31.      IBM for some critical information about the Windows
  32.      communications interface.

  34.      The SIO support BBS is now available via Internet using VMODEM or
  35.      Telnet.  The Internet address is 199.248.240.2.

  37.      VMODEM version 1.00 is included in this release of SIO. 
  38.      VMODEM.EXE is a virtual modem implementation that allows serial
  39.      communications programs to work over the Internet.  VMODEM also
  40.      includes a Telnet server.  VMODEM allows virtually any data
  41.      communications program, including your favorite BBS software, to
  42.      use an Internet connection instead of a telephone line.  Several
  43.      existing BBSes and now accessible via Internet.  Most took only
  44.      about 5 to 10 minutes to setup under VMODEM.  I wonder if
  45.      Internet is ready for the explosion that is about to come.

  47.      VMODEM.EXE was developed and tested under IBM's TCP/IP Version
  48.      2.0 with the August 1994 CSD applied, and has been tested with
  49.      the Internet Access Kit (IAK) that is included in the bonus pack
  50.      of OS/2 V3.  However, your are on your own with respect to any
  51.      setup of TCP/IP.
